Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana (and a life-long Notre Dame fan as a result), Bennett moved to sunny southern California in 1974 to attend USC Law School. There he developed an interest in wine that has grown to a mild obsession over the years. Despite a career as an in-house attorney for Nissan Motors, his real interest has been wine, primarily French and California, with enough interest in the wines of Austria, Spain, Italy and New Zealand to keep things interesting. The work for Nissan, although distracting from Bennett’s main pursuit of drinking and learning about wine, did bring him to Day-twah often enough for him to meet Gang of Pour founders Geo and Kim, with whom many bottles have been uncorked. When Nissan decided to move its headquarters out of southern California, Bennett took the opportunity to take an early retirement from the legal world to explore meaningful opportunities in wine, starting with writing for the Gang! He still lives in Long Beach, California, with wife Linda, his two kids and both a dog and a cat. | |
