1993 Cape Mentelle West Australia Shiraz: Black olives dominate the nose of this inky garnet, with plum and Kalamata olive flavors; its very smooth right now, but there are enough soft tannins to take it further down the road. 1996 Chateau Reynella Basket Pressed Shiraz; 13.5 % alc.: This inky garnet was poured by one of the attendees. While not as boisterous as the Ridge, it shows pretty plum/black cherry/blueberry flavors and aromas, with tannins and acidity that need time to resolve themselves. While it isnt showing much right now, this has the structure to age well. 1997 Clarendon Hills Brookman Shiraz; didnt note the alcohol % for some reason: This purple dark garnet has a distinctive green olive note to it, along with buttered toast over black cherry/plum flavors and aromas. Big fruit, big tannins and big acidity, yet really enjoyable, especially as it smoothes out with air. Give this some time in the cellar too. 1993 Marques de Grignon Domain de Valdepusa - Spain:Another inky garnet with plum/soft underbrush and hints of animal aromas, this has brighter fruit on the palate, with pretty plum/prune/olive flavors. The tannins are mostly resolved.
