A vertical of Dominus

As has been reported in these pages, the Bored Doughnuts LOVE Christian Moueix’s Californian claret Dominus, and one look at their cellar proves that. Since the theme for this year’s MoCool was "Hail That Cab," BD thought that a vertical of that legendary producer’s wares would be the perfect tie-in.

The Gang took great pleasure in gathering again for our annual summer festivities. Allan Bree/califusa flew in from Cloudy Bay, and Alan Kerr/Canadian Zinfan drove over from Byron, Ontario. Kim Miller/Zinchick joined us on Sunday, after being unavoidably detained.

First, there was our Friday WayCool tasting/dinner at Lac du Doughnut, hosted by the Bored Doughnuts themselves, Mark and Teresa Overberg. Then, there was the big MoCool Saturday BBQ/wine tasting, where we once again renewed acquaintances with online winos from around the country and met virtual friends from around the world. (Canadian Zinfan was this year’s celebrity chef for this event, with a more than able assist from califusa.) What’s more, Bored Doughnut, along with friend Marc Fairorth, attended the Sunday MoCool Cab Shootout and has filed a report on that event.

 A WAYCOOL DOMINUS VERTICAL

As has been reported in these pages, the Bored Doughnuts LOVE Christian Moueix’s Californian claret Dominus, and one look at their cellar proves that. Since the theme for this year’s MoCool was "Hail That Cab," BD thought that a vertical of that legendary producer’s wares would be the perfect tie-in. The only vintage missing from the lineup was the relatively undistinguished 1989, which Mark found to be more useful as a commodity on the auction market than as an esteemed resident in said cellar. Still, all of the other 12 vintages were well represented, making for a fascinating survey.

Much preparation went into making the evening a success. The Director and califusa spent the entire day previous slaving in the kitchen, making a variety of foodstuffs for our gastronomic delight. Mark and Teresa did a huge deal of food preparation as well, and made some extensive rearrangements to Chateau Doughnut to sleep not only us Gangsters, but also our online vine aficionado Mike Conner and BD’s Texas wino buddy Marc Fairorth, his wife Deb and daughter Michelle.

We spent the afternoon lazily down at the lake, awaiting the arrival of CZ and califusa, who had spent the day at Joel and Sally Goldberg’s, preparing for the Saturday MoCool BBQ feast. Finally, they arrived at around 6 PM, and we were ready to rock!

But we didn’t start right off with Dominus!
