There we sat in the shadow of Lyon airport…two burly, unshaven men sharing a "convenience store" ham sandwich. We wore sunglasses and rhythmically bobbed our heads to the familiar tunes on the radio -- "Land Down Under" by Men at Work and a random "Shaggy" dance hall cut (we’d determine that the French really love Shaggy). True, we looked ridiculous in our silver (as the French called it) mini-van (in reality, a Ford Focus hatchback) laden with meager luggage and great renderings of cardboard, duct tape and Styrofoam that would eventually transport our wine treasures back to the USA, but all that said, we had a full tank of fuel and were excited about the prospects of the road that lay ahead…Mike seemed like he knew where he was going. ===> |
