PHASE
THREE: More Wine, and a Little Song 1990 Lafoy et Gasse Côte-Rôtie After dinner, with dishes cleared, the Artist's contribution was introduced, a 1990 Lafoy et Gasse Côte-Rôtie. Already drinking quite well, it had a slightly inky purple red hue. The nose drew such descriptions as green olives, moss, green moldy rocks, and plums. The flavors were rather different than the aromas, with plums, but also, pine cone, mint, bramble fruit, and saddle leather. Gelbfüssler was reminded of wheat, somehow. It drew thumbs up, all around.
It was also my opinion that this would have shown better on its own terms; nevertheless, it seemed amazingly fresh for a fourteen year-old village Burgundy. It was the Artist's favorite red of the evening. On to Phase Four... |
The Road To Canadian Zinfan said, "I should have opened the Burgundy sooner, because it opened up in the glass quite well. Although it could still be cellared, maybe two more years, it was not, by any means, a massive wine." Read Canadian Zinfan's summary of the evening.
